Yo! Sushi get in on the VoIP Revolution

September 20th, 2008

Those wondering about the reach and potential for VoIP Telecommunications may be surprised to learn that Yo! Sushi, the Japanese cuisine restaurant chain,  is to implement an IP phone system across it’s 35 branches in an attempt to reduce its operational costs.

The company’s current legacy set-up will be replaced with the new technology and plans to extend the VoIP system to a further 15 outlets are planned for the next 12 months.

Through integration with their customer database and maps software, Yo! Sushi hopes to generate savings by routing calls through to it’s London call centre.

Internal communications will be streamlined via a conferencing feature in the new VoIP phone system which will enable regional managers to hold remote meetings with restaurant supervisors thus reducing the need for travel or for employees to subscribe to a third-party service.

A spokesperson for the restaurant chain stated “The ongoing costs of line rental and telephony maintenance were becoming a significant overhead to the business and, as we had plans to double the number of outlets within two years, this was an appropriate time to review our overall telecoms strategy,”

“We expect the system to pay for itself within two years, and believe that we have only scratched the surface of what we think the telephony system can do for us in the future.”

Tesco Launch VoIP Network

September 10th, 2008

Supermarket Retailer Tesco Plc has launched a service called ‘TalkWiFi’ that allows mobile phone users to make free and low cost VoIP calls over WiFi.

Provided in partnership with Freshtel, the service can be downloaded to Nokia’s N95,N81,E65 and E51 phones with plans to make the service available to other phone models by the end of the year.

The network works by connecting calls made while in an unrestricted WiFi to the Internet thus offering significant savings to the caller.

With TalkWiki, a call to Australia would cost just 1.5p per minute while calls to other TalkWifi customers are free of charge, even if the other user happens to be abroad.

IEEE Approves Wireless VoIP Standard

September 5th, 2008

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has approved the 802.11r Wi-Fi protocol, which allows Wi-Fi enabled devices to pass between WLAN access points more quickly.

The new standard aims to improve the quality and security of VoIP services. With existing protocols, swapping from one access point to another takes considerable amount of time.

The 802.11r standard, also known as Fast Basic Service Set Transition, takes less than 50 milliseconds to enable the security authentication of the service, during the course of switching over. This is less than half the time taken by existing standards.

The 802.11r standard was developed in 2004 and approval for publishing the final draft of the standard was given by the 802.11r task group in January.

Avalle – The Hosted IP Platform of the Future

August 22nd, 2008

Along with the launch of the Best4IP website, we are also proud to launch our very own hosted IP platform.

Avalle offers clients the ability to link together multiple sites and individuals, using a single communications system.

Avalle has been created to assist businesses with their communication needs while avoiding the need for costly software or hardware. Ultimately, Avalle has been developed to improve the way in which a business communicates.

Avalle is a hosted IP platform that allows a company to completely unify all their communications across an entire company network.  This inherently means that the speed and efficiency of the company will be greatly improved.

The services available through the Avalle platform include voicemail, auto attendant, unified messaging (allowing a combination of e-mail, SMS, Fax, voice and video), automatic call distribution (especially useful for businesses with call centres), call recording and conferencing.  These are just a few details of the services available.

The big idea behind Avalle is that Best4IP wish to provide our customers with an all-in-one VoIP solution and internet telephony system, bringing together a host of services that the customer would usually have to pay for separately.

In addition to all this, using the latest IP technology, site to site calls are free when using the Avalle hosted IP platform.

With Avalle you can make your business more efficient while reducing the cost of in-house communications.

Best4IP - the site for all Voice Over IP Telecommunications needs

August 19th, 2008

Here at MediaComm, we are proud to bring you Best4IP, our platform for all Voice Over IP Telecommunications products and services. This site is designed to compliment our other two communication solution equipment sites  - Best4Headsets and Best4Systems.

Best4IP brings together the VoIP communications and internet based telephony services that are offered by MediaComm. We plan to provide complete VoIP communication solutions for businesses and consumers who need solutions to their communication problems. We felt that to split these products and services across Best4Systems and Best4Headsets would dilute the focus of telephone headsets and telephone systems, that those sites cover. Thus, Best4IP was born.

Alongside the launch of the new site, we are also championing our new IP Hosting Platform, Avalle. We will be implementing this new breed of telephony system for our clients to help them to link together multiple offices and individuals, using a single communications system.

We have a wealth of information on the subject of SIP telephony, VOIP telephony and related features and implementation and we hope to share this information and our personal expertise through three distinct areas on Best4IP. Firstly, our VoIP Knowledge Base is a great place to find info on all the products and services we offer. Secondly, We have a VoIP FAQ section set up for those new to VoIP technology who need a a helping hand navigating the terminology and ideas used in IP telephony. Lastly, our Glossary of VoIP Terms bolsters the advice available in the FAQ and the knowledge base and will keep you up to speed on the latest terms being used with in the VoIP industry.

We hope you enjoy the site as much as we are proud of it and invite users to get in touch and talk to us about your VoIP needs.
