There are a number of factors to take into account when working out which IP based product is best for you. A few of the main points to consider are:

• How many users and sites do you have?
• What are the features that you want (voicemail, auto attendant, etc)?
• Do you have a LAN, or structured cabling network?
• Can the phone system you have at present have IP clients (extensions) added to it?
• Do you want to link home workers and satellite offices?
• Have you got a business grade broadband connection with good up-speed?

Another major consideration is whether you want a hosted IP solution or you own complete VOIP solution. This means that with the hosted IP solution you are linked into a remote site, though which all your call traffic travels; as opposed to the complete VoIP solution with which you have your own pure IP phone system that sits in your office.

It may be the case that you are only in temporary accommodation, and do not want to invest in the equipment. There are also types of business that suit the flexibility of the Hosted IP solution production companies, and call centres that have needs that can change often and need to be able to add features and users easily to the platform are examples.

On the other hand you may want the hardware in house. This allows you to do whatever you like with it as often as you like. If you want to change the features and parameters of the VoIP system, you can do so yourselves then and there, without the need for an external interaction. This is one of the main attractions of owning your own IP system.
